What to Wear for Fall Family Portraits {pittsburgh family photographer}
/What to Wear for Fall Family Portraits- Pittsburgh, PA
As a photographer, I've had the privilege of capturing countless moments of love and togetherness for families throughout the years. One of my favorite seasons for family portrait sessions is undoubtedly fall. The cool breeze, colorful leaves, and gentle sunlight make it a magical time. But, to get those perfect shots, it's important that your family dresses right. In this blog post, I'll share some tips on what to wear for fall family photos.
Embrace Autumn Colors:
Fall is all about rich, earthy tones. Deep reds, warm oranges, rustic browns, and olive greens are excellent choices. These colors not only blend seamlessly with the fall landscape but also add warmth and depth to your photographs.
Coordinate, Don't Match:
Gone are the days when everyone had to wear matching outfits. Instead, I suggest opting for coordinating colors and patterns. This creates a harmonious and visually pleasing composition without looking too uniform. For example, one family member might wear a maroon sweater, while another sports a beige dress with a maroon scarf.
Layers and Textures:
Fall offers the opportunity to play with different textures and layers, which can add visual interest to your portraits. I would encourage you to incorporate cozy knits, cardigans, scarves, and vests. These not only keep them warm but also add dimension to the photographs.
Mind the Details:
Accessories can make a significant difference in family portraits. Hats, gloves, and boots can not only add style but also provide practical warmth. I would advise against clothing with large logos or busy patterns that may distract from the main subjects.
Comfort is Key:
Above all, make sure the clothing you pick is comfortable. When people (especially kiddos) are uncomfortable in their clothing, it will show in their expressions. Ensure that everyone feels at ease in their outfits to capture genuine smiles and interactions.
As a photographer, I know that picking the right clothes for your fall family can be a daunting task. But by focusing on coordinating outfits rather than matching, layering and mixing textures, and prioritizing comfort, you can make sure that your family looks and feels great during the photo session. The goal is to capture the warmth and togetherness of fall while creating pictures that you'll treasure for a life time.
